DBF, or 4′,5′-Dibromofluorescein, is an orange powder belonging to the fluorone dye family. It is a hydroxyl-xanthene dye, similar to fluorescein, and is widely used in biomolecule labeling and sensing. DBF is slightly soluble in water, resulting in an orange solution with faint yellow fluorescence. It has better solubility in ethanol, producing an orange solution with greenish-yellow fluorescence. DBF is also soluble in acetone, resulting in a pink solution with yellow fluorescence. When dissolved in concentrated sulfuric acid, it forms a red-yellow solution that turns yellow-brown upon dilution, forming an orange precipitate. DBF is also known as Eosinic acid and Solvent Red 72, with a chemical formula of C20H10Br2O5.
