Applications:
Biological Staining: Brilliant Cresyl Blue is commonly used as a biological stain in hematology. It is primarily used for staining reticulocytes, which are immature red blood cells. The stain interacts with the RNA content in the cells, allowing for their identification and quantification.Blood Cell Analysis: Brilliant Cresyl Blue staining can be utilized in various laboratory techniques to analyze blood cells. It helps in differentiating and counting reticulocytes and can aid in the diagnosis of certain blood disorders or in monitoring bone marrow function.Veterinary Medicine: Brilliant Cresyl Blue is used in veterinary medicine for the staining and examination of blood smears in animals. It is particularly helpful in assessing reticulocyte levels and evaluating erythropoiesis (the production of red blood cells) in animals.Microscopy and Imaging: Brilliant Cresyl Blue can be used in microscopy and imaging techniques to enhance the visualization of specific structures or components. It can provide contrast and highlight specific cellular or tissue elements of interest.Histology: Brilliant Cresyl Blue may find application in histological staining for specific purposes. It can be used to highlight certain tissue structures or cellular components in samples.

Brilliant Cresyl blue is a useful electroactive indicator dye often incorporated in electrochemical DNA oligonucleotide sensors in which different signals are observed depending on the presence of ssDNA or dsDNA. Studies show that the intensity observed from brilliant cresyl blue is linearly related to the concentration of the target oligonucleotide sequence in the range of 1.0×10-8 to 5.0×10-6M. In addition, brilliant cresyl blue fluorescence can be intensified with the addition of cyclodextrins. Alternate studies indicate that brilliant cresyl blue can be used to select developmentally competent oocytes for nuclear transfer and enhance the blastocyte development rate after transfer.
