Applications:
Biological Staining: Ethyl Violet is commonly used as a biological stain in histology and microbiology. It can stain cells, tissues, and microorganisms, aiding in their visualization and identification under a microscope. It is particularly useful for staining gram-positive bacteria in the Gram staining technique. Antifungal and Antimicrobial Agent: Ethyl Violet possesses antifungal and antimicrobial properties. It has been used as a topical treatment for fungal infections and as a disinfectant for medical equipment. However, its use in these applications has declined due to the availability of more effective and safer alternatives. Dyeing and Textile Industry: Ethyl Violet has been used as a dye in the textile industry, particularly for coloring silk, wool, and leather. Its vibrant purple color makes it suitable for dyeing fabrics. Industrial Applications: Ethyl Violet has been utilized in various industrial processes, such as dyeing paper, manufacturing inks, and coloring materials for the inkjet printing industry.

Ethyl violet is a cationic triarylmethane dye that is the ethyl homolog of crystal violet. It is a general histological and pathological stain. Ethyl violet has been used to stain pancreatic tissue and elastin in the detection of gram negative bacteria, and as a reagent for the extractive-spectrophotometric determination of anionic surfactants. Ethyl violet induces mitochondrial permeability. It has been used in the extraction and spectrophotometric determination of copper. Along with the anionic dye zincon, ethyl violet is used in counterion dye of proteins in SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
