Applications:
Fluorescein Angiography: Fluorescein W/S is commonly used in ophthalmology for angiography procedures. It is injected intravenously into the patient, and its fluorescence allows for the visualization and examination of blood vessels in the retina. This technique helps in the diagnosis and monitoring of conditions affecting the eye, such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.Contact Lens Examination: Fluorescein W/S is used to evaluate the fit and integrity of contact lenses. It is applied topically in the form of eye drops, and the fluorescence helps identify any irregularities, defects, or damage to the lens. This technique is especially useful in fitting contact lenses and assessing corneal conditions.Corneal Staining: Fluorescein W/S is employed to detect corneal abrasions or ulcers. It is applied topically as eye drops, and the dye adheres to damaged or compromised areas on the cornea, making them fluoresce under specific lighting conditions. This staining assists in the diagnosis and evaluation of corneal disorders.Flow Visualization: Fluorescein W/S can be used to visualize fluid flow patterns in various applications, including hydrodynamics, hydraulic studies, and fluid mechanics research. By introducing the dye into the fluid system and illuminating it with appropriate light, the movement and behavior of the fluid can be observed and analyzed.Water Tracing: Fluorescein W/S is sometimes used as a tracer in hydrological studies to track water movement. It can be added to water bodies or injected into underground systems, allowing researchers to monitor the flow, dispersion, and transport of water in rivers, lakes, and groundwater systems.

Fluorescein sodium salt is a disodium salt of fluorescein and a noted pH sensitive fluorophore. Fluorescein sodium salt has been utilized in studies as a drug model, as a penetrating dye and also as a fluorescein tracer. Fluorescein sodium salt has also been used in vitro to quantify root dentin demineralization. Additional reported uses include microscopy, as a gain medium in dye laser use and to detect latent blood stains in vitro. Common derivatives of Fluorescein include fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), eosin and Rose Bengal (sc-296278) and Rose Bengal sodium salt (sc-203757)
